Hello! Happy Spring!

So... we've been in Colorado the past few weeks as we wrap up this leg of our tour and travel adventure. We LOVE Colorado, and have been especially blessed to be spending time with dear friends and family here. The weather has been all over the place (Springtime in Colorado!), but SO, so beautiful. 

Last week we released a new video for Earth Day called "I am Home", and just wanted to share it here. 

I think the best thing about this travel adventure is being so close to Mother Earth. We are literally in the dirt most of the time! Lol. I was telling Eric the other day, I feel like I have a new relationship with dirt. But that's a whole other blog for another time. :-)

This song, "I am Home", is about being at home on Mother Earth, home in our hearts... home wherever we are. "Home in my heart, free in my soul, peace in my mind, LOVE ON THIS EARTH". I wrote this song several years ago, but it really came to life for me on this travel adventure. When we were in Homolovi State Park in Winslow, Arizona a couple of months ago, I had this impulse to grab our drums and shoot us playing and singing on the sacred land. It was so powerful! I hope you can feel the power when you watch this. 

In this season of renewal and rejuvenation, Eric and I are digging even deeper into our "clean energy inside and out" ministry, especially musically. We're taking some time off from "gigging" to work on our new album and share our travel adventure virtually as much as we can.

Hello!

I've been posting on Instagram, Facebook, and Patreon, but want to start sharing some things here on my website blog, too! :-)

So... the video above. When we were in the planning phase of this "travel trailer adventure" about a year ago, we wrote a covenant (agreement with Spirit/God/Universe) to help us "lift off"... and wanted a theme song to go with it to help keep us on track. That's how this song, "Fly", was born... and then we started compiling video footage along the way.

We left our home in Washington State last summer, but it feels like the true adventure began in January of this year, when we set out on what we're now calling the "Flying by the Seat of our Soul Tour" in the SW region of the states. 

We make general plans as needed, but we're mostly feeling our way through it. OH, MAN... are we learning a lot. TRUST is probably the biggie. Learning to trust. To trust in the covenant. To trust in ourselves. To trust LIFE. To trust and stay in the flow. It's sometimes stressful, but mostly, we are finding the magic in this method! ;-)

As you've probably caught on from countless social media and blog posts, etc., Buddy is pretty special to us. We sort of inherited him after Eric's stepdad, Rufus, passed away exactly one year ago today. But Buddy has been a big part of our lives since we moved out to the log house property in Battle Ground, Washington in 2015. 

I remember when we'd visit (before moving there), he'd always be around to greet us and escort us up to the house. Always very chivalrous. ;-) It was love at first sight. 

During our time living there, we saw Buddy (and Buddy saw us) through many transitions, including the death of Eric's Mom, Carol. After Carol passed away, Buddy seemed to act out in kind of dramatic ways. He had a habit of chasing cars on the country road (his herding instinct, I suppose) and it was Carol who would try to curb that instinct, literally. She would take him out to the side of the road and every time a car would pass, she'd have him lie down.

With Carol no longer there, and Rufus unable to really keep a good eye on him, Buddy began getting into trouble, which wasn't really like him. There were a couple of foot and leg injuries that required medical attention (and the dreaded cone of shame), but the worst was a car chasing incident. Without going into the gory details, Buddy actually bit a moving tire and lost a canine tooth and part of his jaw. Super traumatic for all of us.

Eric and I nursed him through those events... and in the process, Buddy nurtured our broken hearts about Carol. Our mutual endearment deepened.  
When it came time to leave the log house, we had to make a decision about Buddy. We weren't certain this crazy travel trailer life would be the best for him (not to mention some challenges for us). But we also couldn't see leaving him... and Rufus' family was very encouraging about us having him. We were bonded. And as anyone with a pet knows, that kind of bonding is a sacred thing.

Buddy not only took to this adventure like a champ, but he is sort of our happiness gauge/guru. And he seems very happy... and healthy. He loves being with us, like the pack animal he is. We are family, for sure. 

Lately, he has been hanging around the truck a lot (our tow rig). He loves that truck. There's a doggie hammock for him in the back seat and he sits up high and proud watching the road and taking in the scenery. He even nips at cars passing by (like a game of Pac-man, lol) and barks at them on occasion. Always working. 

I think he's ready to continue the traveling. We've been in one spot for almost three months now, and as wonderful as it's been, there hasn't been nearly as much "truck time" for him. We can't wait to show him some new terrain. OK, let's face it... the pooch is our mirror and WE can't wait to venture out some more and explore. Lots to sniff for all of us. ;-)

When we set out on our "six months to a year" travel trailer adventure, we really only had "phase one" sketched out... and very loosely. We chose to travel to Northern California (specifically Sonoma County) to begin our journey with the intention of creating and sharing music, helping people go solar, and getting acclimated to this off-grid kind of life. 

Four months later, with stays in Forestville, Healdsburg, and Cotati, we've done just that... and have navigated a great start. It hasn't always been easy or without some tension, but we've managed to stay true to our covenant (purpose/vision/intentions) and have mindfully followed our hearts with guidance from on high. Without killing each other. Whew! Lol.

So, now we find ourselves in that wondrous and curious place of... "what's next?" Literally, just this week, we noticed the grass growing under our wheels, lol. We're taking it as a beautiful nudge from nature.  

A few days ago, I was in a beloved conscious bookstore and was drawn to a deck of "Gaia Oracle Cards" created by Toni Carmine Salerno. Incredibly beautiful artwork and guidance/affirmations. And... GAIA! Goddess of the Earth. Perfection. A really wonderful tool.

One of the cards we drew today was "Hidden Path" (pictured here). The gist of it is: "Spirit and matter must merge if true progress is to be made". We are spiritual beings in physical bodies... and the spiritual path and physical path are one. We are trusting that Spirit will take us where we need to go.

We are also feeling like we have created this off-grid spaceship for a reason! We have the ability to pretty much go anywhere... and to experience all the beauty our Mama Earth has to offer. And also... we get to chase the warmer climates as winter approaches! ;-)

​So it's been like TWO YEARS since I last blogged. What a crazy, intense and unprecedented two years! Whoa. And here I am today... in Northern California (Sonoma County), as we begin our "travel home adventure", very much propelled by circumstances of the past two years. Maybe I'll share more about that in another post... but, alas... here I am... today.

Interesting, though, that my last post was about breathing... which is what inspired this post, too. There is so, so much about breathing... it connects us to each other and to EVERYTHING. No breath... no life.

This morning Eric and I did some powerful breath work with a wonderful community via Zoom. Honestly, meditation has always been somewhat challenging for me (!), but this was different. This was like yoga for the lungs, the heart, and the whole BEING... both physical and emotional.  Very, very impactful. So much so that, as I mentioned, it inspired me to write this blog post. Breath of FIRE is what it felt like. Purifying, healing, energizing FIRE. And what timing to experience this, being on Day 6 of COVID. Overall, it's been pretty mild... but breathing, in general, has not been the easiest... congestion, that tickle in the chest, fatigue. It was truly remarkable that not only was I able to do the breath work without it triggering a coughing fit... but it actually helped me work THROUGH it and above it. It opened my heart and lungs and there was even a purifying release of tears.  

This all got me to thinking more deeply about what "Clean Energy Inside and Out" really means. By the way, this is sort of the motto or "catch phrase" Eric and I use to express our mission as musicians, educators, and solar advocates in this "travel home adventure" we're on.  This morning I got so much more clarity on the "clean energy inside" part.

The way I see it, clean energy inside is simply being in the energy of Divinity/God/Love (whatever word fits your sense of a higher power) and having the awareness of it. And further, It is recognizing that because we are human, it requires practice to live in that place of spiritual purity.

Eric and I have been reading daily from 365 Science of Mind (Ernest Holmes) and today's reading was so very synchronistic:

 "Today I enter into the stream of pure Life, knowing that as I bathe in the spiritual water of perfection, my whole being is cleansed, purified, and made whole".

THIS. This is "clean energy inside" in a nutshell. It begins with US. If we want to help heal humanity and planet, we've got to practice our wholeness. I say PRACTICE, because it is a word of action and yet we don't create our wholeness... it is already there. It is our WORK (our practice) to get in touch with it... to see, feel, and taste it. To BE it.

We've heard that "hurting people hurt people". Yes. And "WHOLE people HEAL people (and planet)". Thank you, Rev. David Alexander. :-) This is powerful beyond measure.

On another synchronistic note, today is my man's birthday (Happy birthday, Eric!) and this is LEO SEASON! It's a season that offers us energy that is bold, authoritative, and confident. Leo is a FIRE sign (again, the purifying fire!)... the element of action, motion, and creation. Leo season also offers the freedom needed to express our WHOLE  and TRUE selves fully and to move through the world the way we want to. This expression of wholeness is the healing energy the world needs... especially now.

This is why Eric and I (and our furry mascot, Buddy Sattva the Sundog) are doing what we're doing... living and traveling and working out of our "off-grid space ship" travel home and studio (aka our vintage Silverstreak trailer named "Victorious Victoria") to practice, share, and promote "clean energy inside and out" through music, solar, and sustainable living. And I will continue to stress "PRACTICE" because while we intend to inspire and educate, we are also always learning and growing into this!

We will be sharing some stuff on our journey with the general public, but excited to be launching a Patreon page where we can engage more intimately and share even more with an online community of supporters/patrons of our creative venture to help make a difference in the world (and hopefully bring some joy and inspiration)! We are in the process of fine-tuning the page and intro video, complete with a new song  that is sort of the soundtrack to our adventure appropriately called "Fly":

There has been talk that the George Floyd case and subsequent protests and riots is a diversion or distraction. "What happened to Coronavirus?" is a meme I've seen floating around. A political distraction to Coronavirus and whatever else. But I don't see it that way. To me, it's one pandemic revealing another... and so on and so on. I think we will continue to see revealing of our country's ills... in very dramatic, disabling ways. To get our attention in a way we cannot ignore... that disrupts "normal life" in ways that impacts us all. Because nothing has broken us... enough. Yet. Systemic ills being revealed and breaking down HAS to happen before the true healing. I believe.

"I can't breathe". Right there. The devastating connection. And the metaphor. A black man pinned down... unable to breathe. A virus called Covid-19 attacking the respiratory system, rendering people unable to breathe. "I can't breathe" is a literal and physical manifestation of oppression... which is a huge and complex machine that needs to be dismantled. It's complex, yes. But there is one connecting force that stands out to me overall: a denial of and resistance to our INTERdependence. That we need each other to survive and thrive. We've got to SEE each other to BE with each other INTERdependently. I don't offer this as an answer or a fix to anything... just an observation that connects the dots for me. As an artist and a thinker and a feeler, this is how I process life. And how I express it. Not a replacement for any concrete steps to be taken to dismantle the destructive "isms" in our society (i.e. new laws, reparations and accountability)... but part of MY work is where my heart takes me in times like these. Shining light on the possible deeper meanings and broader scope of humanity's "conscious evolution".  

So my mind and heart often go to questions: like, why is interdependence such a threat? Enough to divide us over EVERYthing... even things that would seem to bring us together? If I believe that is at the heart of it all... our connection to each other... what is it in us as a society that wants to cling to unhealthy INdependence? Me-ness instead of we-ness? There must be a sense of safety in it... but IS it safety? If we are alive, we ALL have a heartbeat. That is the undeniable truth. We breathe, therefore we are alive. But ARE we? Are we really HERE? I'm talking awareness. Heart presence. If we can't acknowledge the value of every single heartbeat that is part of the collective heartbeat... well, we as humanity face extinction... literally and figuratively. We ALL suffer. We ALL cannot breathe. We must breathe together.

"Do we see the eyes... do we see the soul? If we have to break... how much more?"

A song is coming. Well... so much is coming. But from this artist, this is a part of "how I do". I have to create. I have to express. I am not helpless... and also, I kind of am. So I LISTEN. I try to SEE. And I pray for guidance. For myself. For us all. Because this is messy. We are going to stumble in our best efforts. But this isn't about making ourselves look good or feel better. It's also not about shaming and blaming ourselves. It's about being open to learning... and to listening to the oppressed voice. And right now, the black voice. Listening, listening, listening. 

Let us be guided by the deep, caring God-love that is underneath everything, whether we always see it or not. Just pouring "love and light" on everything may not cut it, but it also cannot be discounted. The energy of love is a very powerful thing. And taking time to BREATHE is powerful. And really seeing and knowing that with every breath, we are breathing together. And helping each other to breathe. THAT is powerful.
